Travertine stool for interior or external external made in Italy
The travertine is a type of limestone sedimentary rock of light color, yellowish of bigenic origin. The small cavities present in the semi -compact structure are typical of travertine.
Very resistant to atmospheric agents, travertine has been used since Roman antiquity in construction as a construction and ornamental material.
The Tiburtina stone vulgarly called travertine is made up of limestone formed by sediment and produced somewhere from the waters of the Aniene river and much more from the Albule waters which freely flowed for those plains before the cardinal Ippolito d'Este narrowed them in the canal that Now called the "Solfatara".
Many quarries of this stone are in the surroundings of Tivoli and extend from the slopes of the mountains of that city to the Fiumicello of the sulfurous water commonly called the "Solfatara".
In the quarry which give the name "of the goats" on the direction of Monticelli, the travertine is of the hardest and most compact yellowish white of any other.
In the quarry called "delle Fosse" which is in the Piani di San Clemente, the clearest, most tender and more pierced travertine is extracted.
This quarry was chosen by cavalier Lorenzo Bernini to extract the travertines employed in the construction of the famous colonnade of the Vatican square, and for the convenience of the workers a large factory was erected which also brings the name of "Casal Bernini" to the present day.
In Italy, the best travertines come from the plain under Tivoli (today largely pertaining to the Municipality of Guidonia).
The Latins called him Lapis Tiburtinus, and made one of the main building resources of the city, when they began to enrich it with stones other than local tuphs.
