Openhouse

Two years ago, Andrew Trotter and Mari Luz Vidal launched the Openhouse project, opening their Barcelona home up to the public to host everything from photography exhibitions and sushi demonstrations to dinner parties, musical performances, and workshops. The pair—Andrew is a designer and Mari is a photographer—love providing a platform for creative minds to come together. And they've found others enjoy the opportunity to gather for community and inspiration as well.

The project has quickly grown, and Openhouse has found likeminded hosts around the globe—people who open their private spaces (homes, studios, and workshops) to others for engaging, community-rich experiences. Now they've compiled some of their favorite host stories into a new magazine—Openhouse: The Life We Share—and are very close to having the project crowdfunded via Kickstarter (with only a few days left!).

The first issue is ready to print, and, if launched, will feature some great stories, including:

  • the full story behind Openhouse Project in Barcelona
  • a visit with Milan-based GnamBox, who invite people into their home to cook their favorite dishes, while they record and share the recipes online
  • a conversation with set designer Tony Hornecker, who opens his London home for food and performances
  • a look inside Tokyo-based architect and designer Jo Nagasaka's studio (which you can even camp at)
  • and more!
