Heart of Glass

There are just a few days left to see the Galerie Elac exhibition, Heart of Glass. The show presents the results of an inspiring, two-year-long research project led by ECAL (the University of Art and Design in Lausanne, Switzerland) that delves into the rich materiality and varied design processes affiliated with glass.

The project consisted of four intensive workshops, open to students from the master department of product design, and supervised by Ronan BouroullecAugustin Scott de Martinville, Stéphane Halmai-Voisard, and Camille Blin. From hands-on crafting techniques and bold experimentation to dealing with specific requirements for commercial production and technological application, each workshop focused on exploring different possibilities of working with glass.

Accompanying the physical exhibition is a website that offers an archival insight into the workshops, each object, and its production process. Around 300 artifacts are presented in the exhibition and online, each in different states of completion, to reveal the full spectrum of experiences and challenges that were faced. In that sense, the project may be conceived as a “provisional catalogue of creations to come.”

The collection is accessible via www.heartofglass.ch The physical exhibition is on view through February 20th at Galerie Elac, ECAL's on-site gallery.
