The Diario project by Moisés Hernández.

Diary of the Everyday

Part design exercise, part travel diary, Diario is described by its creator Moisés Hernández as “a social, cultural, curatorial, and design project of Mexican objects.”  Beginning as his Master’s diploma project, it has grown into something so much more. Not only does this project research and reflect on the designed objects and traditional handcraft techniques of his native Mexico, but it also sensitively reinterprets the traditional "making" traditions, redesigning objects—often through a process of simplification while retaining their intrinsic characteristics—to reinterpret them in a more contemporary fashion as part of his Diario collection.

To date Diario—which is Spanish for diary and everyday—has seen Hernández's researching fabrics and weaving with textile producers Felipe & José in Oaxaca, ceramics with Francisca, Angela, and María in San Marcos Tlapazolain, silver with jewelry maker Andrés in Taxco, and enamel products, or Peltre, in Mexico City.

I for one can’t wait to see where he goes with this next, and am very excited to tell you that we now have a selection from the Diario collection's Oaxaca Linen series for sale here on the site. The Oaxaca Facades, Oaxaca Skies, and Oaxaca Night table linen sets are designed by Hernández’s and crafted from 100% handwoven cotton by the textile producers he met while in Oaxaca. Each set can also include a set of his elegantly simple silver napkins rings masterfully crafted by Andrés, a jewelry maker from Taxco.
